Fourth Grade Storybooks
Mixed Media Project:
4th Grade Story Books
Fourth grade students were inspired by the Columbus, Ohio Artist
Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson
Ms. Robinson created storybooks out of many materials including quilting, drawings and paintings. She combined all different types of materials together to complete stories about her family, community and about the stories she has been told by her elders. She also researches the lives of abolitionists, civil rights leaders, musicians, and writers and depicts them in her art. Her art is grounded in her belief in the African concept of Sankofa, learning from the past in order to move forward. Her works are currently on display at the Toledo Museum of Art.
Students combined traditional art materials including paint, markers and oil pastel with everyday materials like paper, cloth, ribbons and yarn to create a storybook about a subject they liked.
