Visual Art for Special Needs
I had the honor to substitute for an intervention specialist at Northview High School in Sylvania, Ohio for a short time. One of the best experiences of teaching I will ever know!! My best thanks to Christina Saverstrom, Intervention Specialist and the excellent team of Para Professionals who let me work with the students side by side with Professionals, helped me learn the process, educated me on special needs and giving me the opportunity to work and make me feel like part of the team. Thank you for letting me get to know the students and learn how they can teach me how to teach them!! Thank You!!
Louise Nevelson Style Art Projects
Students were inspired by Louise Nevelson art by learning about methods of recycling junk into art. Premade wooden shapes were glued together in layers to create a completed work of art. The students had a choice to spray paint or tempera paint their artwork but decided to leave the artwork as is. They enjoyed the project and learning to work with hand on hand process.
Claude Monet Style Art Projects
Students were inspired by Claude Monet lily pond paintings to create a 3D Lily flower out of model magic. Students learned the modeling process of pinch pot style molds, cut sections to create petals, folding techniques and painting process through hand over hand process. Independence is encouraged and one student took the process further to create a cross and cell phone. Lilies did not appeal to the student. :)
