Third Grade Aboriginal Dot Paintings
Australia Aborigines created and told stories to pass down from generation to generation about life, including birth, love, food gathering, hunting among other things. People would tell their stories through music, dance and symbolic art. This project encompasses cross curricular topics including social studies, cultural history, sciences such as biology and language arts to include reading stories and creative writing. Art elements include line, shape, color and space. Students will use principles of design in repetition and pattern.
Students will create artwork drawing their Australian subject on paper with pencil and painting small dots of color with a Q-Tip to create a colorful detailed pattern within the subject and detailed pattern around the subject completely filling the paper to create an Aboriginal Dot Painting. Students will utilize craftsmanship skills by drawing a large snake shape near the center of the composition and draw circle patterns around the snake shape to make a complete composition to paint. Students will use their tactile skill and concentration to make color dot style patterns. Students will also use higher cognitive skills by choosing their own color pattern to create additional color shaped pattern designs around their subjects. |
