Third Grade Fantastic Fossils
![]() Fossils are preserved animals, plants and other organisms from the past, dating 10,000 years ago. Paleontology is a scientific study of geology and life forms.
Mixed media art project. Students will create artwork by placing yarn to form a fish skeleton on a flat board and apply yarn materials on top to crate a relief formed 2 dimensional artwork representing a fish fossil Students will utilize craftsmanship skills by drawing their skeleton fish lines on cardboard, cutting different sized yarn to measure with the skeleton parts that make up the fish skeleton fossil shape and placement on cardboard. Students will also use higher cognitive skills placing their Fish skeleton in a composition on their board, adding depth and detail by adding other fossil shapes that represent seashells or leaves at the bottom of the sea. Students work with art elements including shape, line and color. Students will also learn principle of design including emphasis and variety, to create a composition. |
