Third Grade Mondrian Spider Webs

Students will create a Halloween theme of a spider web based on the abstract style of Piet MondrianPiet Mondrian was a Dutch abstract painter born in Amersfoort Holland. He painted in a spare, precise, geometric manner mostly using primary colors. It was a style that Mondrian called neoplasticism.
Students will utilize craftsmanship skills by following step by step directions, drawing lines to connect fixed points to form the spider web working with primary colors of red, yellow and blue markers or tempera paint. Students will also use higher cognitive skills by using elements of art including line, shape and primary colors by choosing which web sections they want to paint in the Mondrian art style. Students will also learn principles of design including pattern and repetition. |
