First Grade Primitive Cave Paintings
![]() Mixed media art project. Students will be able to draw outline of subjects, ex: horses, bulls and various symbols, color in subjects and use methods to make their artwork look like a cave painting. These paintings are estimated to be 17,300 years old. They primarily consist of images of large animals, most of which are known from fossil evidence to have lived in the area at the time. Some anthropologists and art historians also theorize that the paintings could be an account of past hunting success or a way to people communicated to tell stories. Students will learn elements of art that include line, shape and color. Students will learn to use materials. Students will learn about the beginnings of art history. Students will implement these elements in future art projects. Students will utilize craftsmanship skills working with crayons and paint. Students will also use higher cognitive skills by adding extra symbols or animal to indicate an environment to enhance their cave painting story.
