First Grade Rainbow Fish
![]() Mixed Media Project: This lesson plan is based on a children’s storybook called Rainbow Fish. The moral of the story is not to be selfish, to learn how to share and give to others to obtain happiness and make new friends.
Students will use 12 x 12 white construction paper, draw the shape of the fish by following step by step instructions. Students will also draw the individual scales, eyes and mouth with sharpie pens and use multi colored tempera cakes to paint the fishes sections. Students will cut out one or two scale shapes from shiny silver paper and glue the silver scales on their fish to relate to the Rainbow Fish storybook. Students will cut out the fish artwork. Students will utilize craftsmanship skills working with construction paper, scissors, paints, paintbrushes and glue to make the body of a rainbow fish. Students will implement art elements by using multi colors for the body of the fish. Students will also use higher cognitive skills by following directions as well as using art elements of shape, line, color and principles of design by creating fish scales through making patterns and repetition to the fish scales. |
